A distinguished landmark estate in the rural community of Whakamara, Tauranga; chances are you’ve seen it.
Inspired by a single copper handle brought all the way home from Tuscany, Laffin Estate boldly resides on a site of rural character and was inspired by our clients’ travels abroad.
Refined architectural vernacular embodies the timelessness, authenticity and charm of central Italy with the home’s distinctive Mediterranean style. Functionally, we sought to allow diverse use of space for a maturing family (upstairs, teenagers have their own lounge, bedrooms and study) connecting with extended gardens, orchard and alfresco dining spaces to complement the rural setting.
The stunning courtyard water feature is framed by defining sun-baked facades of buildings typical of the Italian countryside (including totara shutters, clay roof tiles with patina copper spouting and dominant chimney stacks), yet balanced with great consideration to the environmental context of New Zealand’s unique climate. The interior is exquisitely crafted, detailed and dramatic.
In hot demand as a backdrop for high fashion photoshoots and the occasional wedding, Laffin Estate was also a Regional Finalist in the 2012 ADNZ Resene Design Awards.
